The joys of the four seasons

Kofu is home to nature that changes with the seasons, and many local events. Cherry blossoms in spring, fireworks in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and clear air and starry skies in winter. Depending on the time of year you visit, you’ll be able to experience unforgettable scenery and experiences.

Spring

Blooming flowers and historic scenery

Cherry blossoms at Maizuru Castle Park

Approximately 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom on the ruins of Kofu Castle. The contrast between the stone walls and the cherry blossoms is beautiful, and the illuminated cherry blossoms at night are also popular.
Sekisuiji Natural Park
Cherry blossoms and azaleas bloom around the quiet Yamadera temple, and it is also recommended as a scenic spot overlooking the Kofu Basin.
Shingen Festival (early April)
A spring tradition in Kofu. A large-scale period procession recreating Takeda Shingen and his army parades through the city.

Summer

Lively festivals and natural coolness

Shinmei Fireworks Festival
Held every year on August 7th in Ichikawamisato Town, Yamanashi Prefecture, this is the prefecture’s largest fireworks festival, combining music and fireworks with approximately 20,000 shots.
Atagoyama Children’s World
This playground, rich in nature, is a great spot for families to splash around in water and catch bugs. The sunset view from the observation deck is also a sight to behold.
The cool scenery of Shosenkyo Gorge and Senga Falls
The valley is cool even in summer. You can enjoy a stroll surrounded by negative ions while listening to the soothing sounds of the waterfall.

Autumn

Fruitful and colorful Kofu time

Autumn leaves at Shosenkyo Gorge (early to mid-November)
One of Japan’s five most famous gorges, the beauty of the strangely shaped rocks, mountain streams, and fiery autumn leaves is breathtaking.
Kofu Wine Tourism (around November)

This event is unique to the Koshu wine-producing region, and includes winery tours and tastings, allowing you to fully enjoy the flavors of autumn.

Winter

A season of clear air and sparkle

Kamui Misaka Ski Resort
This ski resort is popular with beginners and families. You can also enjoy snowboarding and sledding. It’s easily accessible from Kofu, making it perfect for a day trip.
